Frequently Asked Questions
No, we don’t – however, we publish a comprehensive WANTS LIST that details a wide range of football programmes and tickets that we are interested in buying. Although our Wants List is regularly updated, we rarely stray from the current items wanted.
We’d ask that you check out our current WANTS LISTS first and then send us details of items you have that we want – we rarely stray from it, so if you just sent through your spreadsheet and it’s appears full of items that we’re not interested in, we’re probably going to miss the ones you may have that we are interested. Whereas, you will have knowledge of your collection contents and can easily see what matches our Wants List
We respond to all emails within 24 hours – the vast majority of emails are responded to within a couple of hours.
You can, but we need to be able to see the front covers (in their entirety) of every programme you are offering, so we can see which programmes they are. It would be a waste of your time just sending photos of a pile of programmes or collections where we can’t see what all the programmes are. Likewise, they need to be programmes and tickets that we are after.
The most efficient way to get an offer is to check our detailed, but specific WANTS LIST first, then send us a list of the programmes and tickets on it that you have and then we can ask for photos of specific ones we’re interested in.
For programmes we’re interested in we’d be looking for photos of the front/back covers, plus photos of the team line up pages of each programme – they do not need to be photographed individually, there can be more than one item in each photo, just as long as we can see the whole of the cover/page of each item.
For tickets that we’re interested in, we’d be looking for photos of the front and back of tickets. Again, doesn’t need to be individual photos for each ticket, there can be multiple tickets in a photo, just as long as we can see the whole of each ticket.
Photos should be nice and clear, to allows us to fully assess the condition of items.
That’s a little like a “how long’s a piece of string” question, as it really depends what you have. A couple of £50/£100 items would certainly be considered, whereas a couple of £3 items, less so.
We rarely make offers on single / just a few items, unless they are particularly rare or old items. On singular/just a few, non rare items, by the time we’ve covered your postage, our selling costs and expenses, tax, etc then it’s just not viable to buy items in small numbers.
Yes, all the time – however, it needs to be a collection where the vast majority of items are on our Wants List
Firstly, are all the programmes you have on our Wants List? If not, we’re unlikely to be interested as we rarely stray from it, so would be no need to list items we’re not interested in.
If you have hundreds of items that we are interested in, that you don’t already have listed, then you can give us a general idea in first instance (e,g. 25 English League programmes from 1945/46 season, 5 x FA Cup Final tickets from 1946-1950)
If, from general summary, we feel you may have a good selection of items we’re interested in, it maybe that we request photos rather than you having to list them all.
We have done visits to buy – but it’s not viable to do visits unless there is a good selection of items we are interested in buying, So, it all goes back to our Wants List – check this first, as it will give you a definite list if items we’re interested in and if you have a good selection of items on that, then contact us to get the ball rolling.
Firstly, postage isn’t as costly as you may think. For example, upto 20kgs can be sent tracked and insured with Royal Mail for just over £10.
Secondly, we refund your postage costs – so you will not be out of pocket.
When we agree a deal, we will request memorabilia is suitably packaged and sent by Tracked and Insured Postage (we will advise which service to use depending on weight/value – remembering we will reimburse the cost).
This provides protection for you and us. The tracking shows us the progress of the package to us and will show you when we have received memorabilia.
However, in the event of loss or damage in transit, the postal insurance will cover you against such loss.
As you’d see from our Wants List, we rarely buy modern items. However, if you have items of a similar nature and age to items on our wants list, you’re welcome to send details.
However, when offering items that not on our wants list, you will need to tell us your asking price as opposed to us making an offer.
As you’ve seen, we currently only have pre 1950 FA Cup Final programmes on our wants list (or pre-1969 if they come with the match ticket), these are tied to our buyers specific requirements, who on the whole are looking for pre 1950’s items.
We can usually use FA Cup Final programmes in trades for other stock, however, they don’t hold much value for us in such deals, so at best, if wanting to sell us post 1950’s FA Cup Final programmes, we’d only be looking at following rates per programme:
1950-1954 FA Cup Final programmes (without ticket) – £4 each
1955-1957 FA Cup Final programmes (without ticket) – £3 each
1958-1960 FA Cup FInal Programmes (without ticket) – £2 each
1961-1969 FA Cup Final programmes (without ticket) – £1 each
1970-1979 FA Cup Final programmes (without ticket) – 50p each
1980-1985 FA Cup Final programmes (without ticket) – 25p each
We would buy at above rates with a minimum of £15 worth of programmes at a time (we will buy duplicates if you have several of one final). They need to be clean, uncreased/unfolded and no writing. You are best advised to look to sell them individually yourself to obtain a better price, but if you are looking for a quick sale to clear them out, then contact us with details.
As you’ve seen, we do have some specific 1950’s programmes on our wants list, these are tied to our buyers specific requirements, who on the whole are looking for pre 1950’s items. As a result, general 1950’s league and cup programmes not specifically listed on Wants List are unlikely to feature anytime soon, as our buyers are just not looking to collect them.
We can use them in trades for other stock, however, they hold little value for us in such deals, so at best, if wanting to sell us general 1950’s programmes in bulk, we’d only be looking at 20p a programme, with a minimum of 25 programmes at a time. They need to be clean, uncreased/unfolded and no writing. You are best advised to look to sell them individually yourself to obtain a better price, but if you are looking for a quick sale to clear them out, then contact us with details.
Whilst we have some specific 1960’s programmes on our wants list, general 1960’s league and cup programmes are unlikely to feature anytime soon, as our database of buyers are just not looking to collect them.
We can use them in trades for other stock, however, they hold very little value in such deals/trades, so at best, if wanting to sell us general 1960’s programmes in bulk, we’d only be looking at 10p a programme, with a minimum of 50 programmes at a time. They need to be clean, uncreased/unfolded and no writing. You are best advised to look to sell them individually yourself to obtain a better price, but if you are looking for a quick sale to clear them out, then contact us with details.
Whilst we have some specific 1970’s programmes on our wants list, general 1970’s (or later) league and cup programmes are unlikely to feature anytime soon, as our database of buyers are just not looking to collect them.
Unlike 1950’s/1960’s programmes, we can rarely use 1970’s in our swaps or trades for other stock either, so they hold next to no value in such deals/trades for us. As a result, other than specific 1970’s programmes/tickets on our wants list, we’re not going to be able to make an offer on general 1970’s items.
Payment is made once memorabilia has been received and inspected by us. Once received and checked, we will then contact you for payment details – we offer to make payment via Bank Transfer or Paypal payment. The choice is entirely yours. We will make payment no later than 24 hours after you have provided payment details (often made within a couple of hours, but no later than 24 hours)
When agreeing a deal price, we will have discussed the condition and possible sought photos of the items before we have made an offer/agreed a price with you.
All parcels received are logged upon receipt and the opening of parcels is filmed/videoed, so there can be no dispute what was in the parcel. As long as the items received are the ones we have agreed a deal on and in the condition advised, the price is guaranteed. If items are not in the condition described (where we haven’t had photos), then we will not haggle on the price, we will simply reject them and return them to you (either the rejected items, or the whole package). In such circumstances, if we reject and return part of a package, then we will deduct the cost of return postage from agreed total. If we reject and return the whole package, then the postage costs you’ve paid to send us the parcel will not be reimbursed.
Essentially, if we receive all the items in the condition described/confirmed during offer, then the full agreed price will always be paid.
Chances are you will – However, selling off individually takes time and effort. To sell memorabilia, you need to photograph items individually, give a description for each item, price items individually, compete with dozens of other sellers who are offering similar, deal with customer enquiries for products, be prepared to drop your prices as customers haggle, be prepared for items not selling quickly, cover postage and packaging costs, deal with post office drop offs/collection and customers chasing delivery updates, cover selling fees, cover postage costs, deal with individual orders, relist items that don’t sell, storing and sorting collection, and so on
Here at We Buy Football Programmes, we offer sellers a quick sale option without the advertising costs, sellers fees they may otherwise have if they sold on ebay or similar and all the other time consuming issues listed above. We buy items in bulk or rarer items, with a view to selling them on to our database of customers – as such, I am sure you will appreciate, we can only offer prices under the usual selling rate, in order that we can cover postage costs, selling fees, tax, the time it takes to catalogue, photograph, describe to list and deal with orders, whilst still make a little profit. However, you get to keep everything we offer without having to cover postage and don’t have to spend the time and hassle of having to list for sale nor deal with customer enquiries/complaints and orders.
We never hide from the fact that you will likely get more money selling them individually yourself if you want to put in the time and effort. We offer a quick sale option if you don’t want the hassle or want a guaranteed sale all in one go.
No, as per Steps 1 and 2 of How does it work, once you have assessed our Wants List and compared it to what you have, then email us details to consider.
By receiving details via email, it means there is a written record of what is being offered / deals agreed for both parties. It allows us to follow up and request photos or view photos if already sent and finally, it allows us to deal with enquiries / offers in an efficient manner, meaning all customers get responded to swiftly.
No, as detailed, we look for photos to be sent via email, allowing us to deal with enquiries / offers in an efficient manner, meaning all customers get responded to swiftly.
We don’t offer a valuation service, per se – if you have a selection of items from our Wants List, we may make you an offer for what we are prepared to pay for them – as detailed on website, this offer will take into account current market value, our buyers wants, the work required to catalogue and sell, plus make a small profit.
We don’t provide a formal valuation for your items – this is so subjective. An item is only worth as much as a buyer is prepared to pay. How much a buyer is prepared to pay is down to the market you try and sell it in. Some markets (ebay) are saturated with items and will drive the price down, whereas a dedicated market of just chosen buyers competing will drive the price up. You also need to consider the buyer themselves – if they are a collector and you have the missing piece for their collection, they may pay higher. If it’s in auction and there are more than one interested parties, then this could result in bidding war driving price up. However, if your buyer is a dealer, they will pay lower prices to allow for their own profit margins.
Whilst demand and rarity play a part, ultimately, an item is only worth what a buyer is prepared to pay and the seller is prepared to accept.
It’s for these reasons, it’s not possible for us to provide a valuation.
